Eileen Olivieri Torpey was born in
Minneapolis, Minnesota, grew up in
Corvallis, Oregon and currently lives in
Santa Fe, New Mexico. She is an award
winning visual artist, independent curator
and producer. Her artwork is exhibited both
nationally and internationally. Selected
exhibition highlights include: Apple
Blossoms, a solo performance (as part of
a group Fluxus performance) at the Whitney
Museum of American Art, Greenhouse
Project, a solo time duration
performance in a semi-abandoned greenhouse
in Highland Park, NJ, Hum • Hover • Dive,
a drawing and video installation at the Soap
Factory in Minneapolis, MN, Blender,
a group show at Sundaram Tagore Gallery in
New York City, Form and Emptiness, a
group exhibition at Mark Woolley Gallery,
Portland, OR, Pools, a one-person,
public park installation in Reykjavik,
Iceland, Noche Delicious, a video
screening at the Madrid Ballpark, Madrid,
NM, Traces, a group show at the
Rosenwald-Wolf Gallery, University of the
Arts, Philadelphia, PA, and VI
International Digital Art Exhibit, a
video screening in Havana, Cuba.
Eileen is a two-time recipient of the
Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation artist
residency award, a grantee of the New
Visions Film Award for an independent
narrative film in New Mexico and a recipient
of a U.S. Embassy Grant for site-specific
installation in Iceland. She is the
founder/curator of DRIFT, a nomadic art
exhibition now in its 8th year.
Eileen received her M.F.A. at Mason Gross
School of the Arts, Rutgers University.
Presently, she is teaching a freshman
seminar at the Institute of American Indian
Arts College, working on two feature
documentaries with Blind Dog Films and Red
Rock Pictures and associate producing for
Libero Canto Singing. Eileen also serves on
the board of directors of Awakened Life, a
non-profit Zen organization
